| Christian Education for Children
Old First Presbyterian Church believes in
nurture, growth, and learning in the faith for all ages.
We have a full program of Christian nurture for children and
youth:
- Sunday morning church school - Children
attend the first part of worship and hear scripture read in worship.
Then they go downstairs to gather with all
ages of children in the cozy new children’s corner of the social hall. There they take offering, share communion, learn and sing
songs, and hear the Bible story told in an exciting way by a master
story-teller. Finally, children of
different ages and ability choose some of three or four activity
options. These include
drama, discussion, crafts, play time, art and drawing, dance, and other
activities, all related to the themes of the story and led by our volunteer
teachers.
- Children and the Lord's Supper - Presbyterians welcome
children at the Lord's Table, and Old First encourages their participation. Once a
month, they take communion with the gathered worship community, and once each month they
learn about the Eucharist as they share in communion together in their church school
program.
- Special programs - This year these included a delightful,
informal
Christmas pageant and a Holy Week drama. We learn songs, practice readings, do drama
and dance, and prepare for these events in the 9:30 hour each Sunday morning, and then
share our talents and experiences with the whole congregation.
- Youth programs - Junior and senior high youth are involved in
service projects and occasional fellowship events.
- Old First maintains an excellent nursery for
its growing
number of infants and toddlers with well-trained professional and volunteer
staff. Child care is provided for worship and many other events.
