Sunday Morning Worship - 11:00 am
We worship every Sunday morning at 11am / Communion is celebrated on the third Sundays of the month.
Worship is our joyful praise and thanks to God - our celebration of God’s Love. Music and prayer, the hearing of the Word and our response is central to our community of faith. As a congregation we welcome everyone and will do our very best to be your church community in San Francisco. Our reformed faith embodies the concepts that the church is "reformed and always reforming," that we are a "priesthood of all believers" and that Worship is "the work of the people." Our services are based on the lectionary – an orderly study of the Bible - and members along with the pastor lead in the liturgy and Prayers of the People. The pastor preaches a biblically rooted sermon mixed with humor, stories, and current events She strives to speak to our daily lives bringing insight, comfort and hope and challenging us to be the kind of loving, compasionate, justice oriented, and welcoming people God's longs us to be.
In person worship: We have fairly traditional worship, but with a modern understanding. Liturgy and sermons are connected to our everyday modern lives and events in the world. Members always lead prayers and parts of our liturgy. Our beautiful sanctuary is bright and open with amazing stained glass, and is enhanced with ever-changing art. Music is important to us with a talented choir and a variety of classical and contemporary hymns and anthems and one of the city’s best pipe organs. New choir members are always welcome. We strive to be intergenerational in all we do, so children are always invited to worship with their families. We have a special space in the sanctuary filled with activities & crafts for kids. We hope you’ll be nourished and connected with God in our worship. We particularly hope you’ll join us for coffee, tea, and pastries in the Fellowship Hour after service. We do want to get to know you!
Online Streaming Worship: We stream our Sunday worship services live every Sunday morning at 11am each week on our YouTube channel.
On most religious holidays, we hold evening and special worship services on weekdays. We usually have meaningful services on Christmas Eve, Ash Wednesday, and Good Friday. See the special announcements on the front page for dates and times.
Music has been an integral part of our worship and important for the church from the beginning. We have an active and talented choir that contributes to worship each week. The choir has professional singers and amateur members who sing every week with music varying from classical religious music to spirituals and more modern music. New participants are always welcome to join. Contact the director of music at the link below to learn more and to volunteer. The church has one of the best pipe organs in San Francisco and a Hamburg Steinway concert grand piano, a favorite of local pianists

Old First Church founded, hosts, and supports the arts organization Old First Concerts. They present rich and diverse high-quality concert experiences of classical music, jazz and world music. We feature eclectic and adventurous programming including works and performances by women, people of color, and members of the LGBTQ community alongside more established classical music repertoire. They help build the musical culture in San Francisco by supporting local musicians

Old First believes that artistic expression connects us to the spiritual. Because of that, we strive to create sanctuary art that enhances worship and connects us to God, especially in the the church seasons of Advent, Christmas, Lent, Easter, Pentecost and Ephiphany. Members and visitors participate in imagining, planning, creating and intalling dramatic art work in our sanctuary during these seasons. Everyone is invited to be part of the art.
